Marco Kamiya, PhD, is the UNIDO
Representative for Indonesia, the Philippines, and
Timor Leste. UNIDO is the United Nations
Industrial Development Organization.
He was Chief of the Digital Transformation and AI
Strategies Division at UNIDO in Vienna, Chief of
the Urban Economy and Finance Branch at UN-
HABITAT in Kenya, and senior executive at CAF Development Bank for Latin America in
Caracas, the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C., and worked for a
major development consulting firm in Tokyo.
He has written academic papers and articles on industrial policies, growth and AI; Co-edited
the Springer annual series on the “Global Urban Competitiveness Report” (UN-Habitat, The
Chinese Academy of Social Sciences CASS), "Finance for City Leaders" (UN-
Habitat/University College London). He is a senior member of the United Nations
Economist Network (UNEN) in New York and a fellow of Cambridge University’s Industrial
Innovation Policy (CIIP) in the UK.
Marco Kamiya studied International Development at Harvard University (MPA-ID) and
possesses a PhD in economics (Italy).
