Jakarta, February 18, 2025 - The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga
Hartarto, in his opening address of the Indonesia Economic Summit 2025 urged business
leaders and industry captains to join the Indonesian Government’s push in becoming th
dominant player in the global supply chain of the electric vehicles (EVs).
Indonesia has a competitive advantage in the global supply chain of electric vehicles. “We
have to be confident that there will be no (EVs) battery without Indonesian resources. T
world needs Indonesia, so let us capitalize this for the future,” said Airlangga Hartarto.
Airlangga Hartarto said the Indonesian economy shows resilience as evident in manageable
inflationary rates, economic growth that is above the global growth rate and strong trade
surplus despite facing challenges of rising global geopolitical tensions, trade protectionisms,
and ‘higher-for-longer’ interest rates environment.
The Coordinating Minister said among the key policies undertaken by the government to
achieve economic growth target include the implementation of Free Nutritious Meal Program
(MBG) and the establishment of Danantara, a sovereign wealth fund with IDR 900 trillion
assets under management (AUM), and the downstreaming of mineral resource.
The Indonesia Economic Summit 2025 kicked off today with over 1,500 attendees from 48
countries hearing insights from more than 100 world-renowned speakers of business
executives, policymakers, industry leaders and thinkers on the way forward for Indonesia to
accelerate economic growth and raise the well-being of its 280 million people.
Arsjad Rasjid, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Business Council
(IBC), opened the inaugural event of the Indonesia Economic Summit with welcomi
remarks noting that the success of a nation to achieve its growth potential and lasting
prosperity comes to three key themes: the need for Great Policy, Real Action and the
Synergy Between the Private and Public Sectors.
“Today, in this summit, we are here to talk about two things. Two things that define the
nation’s future: growth and prosperity. They are not just big words and buzzwords. They are
the test of whether the rise or fall as a nation in the global economy,” said Arsjad Rasjid
Arsjad Rasjid shared his hopes that IES 2025 will become the platform where “ideas
becoming actions, discussion lead to measurable impacts.
Prof. Dr. Boediono, Former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, shared his insights
of a period starting from the early eighties until the onset of the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997
which saw the Indonesian economy grow in the range of 6% to 7%. This period of strong
growth is due to “a strong consensus among policymakers that development is a long-term
sequential, cumulative and path-dependent process” and a strong understanding to avoi
“costly policy u-turn and unproductive policy zigzagging.
The two-day IES 2025 will host plenary sessions, business roundtables and networking
events for more than 1,500 attendees coming from 48 countries. In the first day of the IES
2025 on February 18, key themes for discussion include how to accelerate Indonesia’
economic growth, strategies to eliminate extreme poverty and pathways to achieve a
greener future.
Discussion on the second day of the IES 2025 on February 19 will center on how to navigate
international trade amid rising protectionism, Indonesia’s goal to achieve food security, an
how to cultivate and nurture future talents.
